Save the Children: Communications Officer | Vientiane



The role
We are currently looking for Communications Officer based in Vientiane
Role Purpose
The Communications Officer will work closely with the Communications and Campaign Manager to provide technical, language, and coordination work required to development and implement the overall internal and external communications plan and the implementation of the Laos country office’s Every Last Child Campaign.  
The Communications Officer will ensure that child safeguarding principles are respected and rolled out in all media and communications and that respect the rights, dignity and safety of children we serve and promotes the values that Save the Children upholds.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work with the Communications and Campaigns Manager in facilitating external and internal communications and support the Country Director and Humanitarian Response Lead in speaking with the public. During emergencies, the Communications Officer must be willing to work outside the normal role profile with the response team, and be able to vary working hours accordingly.           
KEY AREA OF ACCOUNTABILITY
  • Ensure they fully understand the provisions of the Child Safeguarding Policy, the Code of Conduct and Local/Country Procedures.
  • Conduct themselves in accordance with the rules of the Child Safeguarding Policy, in their personal and professional lives – which includes reporting suspicions of child abuse.
  • Support development of written and audio visual communications products for the country office and the various sectors including: Videos, films, briefing documents, newsletters, case studies, press releases, infographics, banners, posters, etc
  • Provide written and oral translations from English-Lao and Lao-English and ensure that content in publications in Laos meet the ethical and technical standards of SCI
  • Assist in administrative tasks within communications department
  • Assist internal and external profile raising efforts through various media channels and platforms
  • Support the Country Office to ensure consistent branding and visibility of Save the Children, our donors and partners
Relationships
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships and coordination with the various sectors, project teams, and units
  • Establish and maintain mutually supportive working relationships media practitioners, communications service providers, other communications practitioners in the country 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in communications, media, journalism, marketing or any related field preferred
Experience and Skills
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience in communications in the development or private sector
  • Proficiency in Lao and English languages
  • Strong interest in international development, communications, PR, and/or marketing
  • Knowledge and skills on communications and media tools online and offline
  • Familiarity with design and editing softwares is an advantage
  • Excellent personal organisational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for children
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles

Contract length: fixed term
